Various information on the 12th

The division was issued a great deal of Italian camouflage material who'd been captured by the LAH in Italy and given to the 12th SS HJ. It was also common to see members wearing leather garments, mostly U-Boat coats or pants.

Many members of the unit would paint their faces black before battle, to camouflage themselves and also to intimidate the enemy.  The divison was also know to have almost, if not all, of it's members in atleast one piece of camouflage garment.

It's members were almost all devoted fanatics to Nazism. Many allied prisonners of the 12 SS have recalled their captors of running through fields firing off rounds to scare the prisonners while making war cries. One Canadian nurse remembers a specific situation where a young SS HJ member came into a field hospital on the verge of death and refused any treatment or medication to ease his pain. The 2 hours he spent lying on a stretcher he had his arm straight up saying "Heil Hitler". The 12 SS HJ was such a fearsome unit even other German soldiers feared them and tried avoiding them at all costs. Sadly, the unit also became known for the murdering of POWs.
